SYMPTOMS:
The Surrogate Socket service hangs on a regular basis. Though it stops accepting new connections, the service status continues to indicate that it is still running.
PROBLEM:
Windows is taking away Surrogate Socket's listening port which effectively blocks it from receiving new connections and causes Surrogate Socket to hang.
WORKAROUND:
Create a batch file to cycle Surrogate Socket and schedule it to run on a daily basis.
- Save cycless.txt to the WINNT directory of your server.
- Rename cycless.txt to cycless.bat.
- Open an MS-DOS prompt.
- Type the following: at 2:00 /every:m,t,w,th,f,s,su c:\winnt\cycless.bat <hit enter>
