Indications:
- Service log states "Error in filter update at step 4, invalid use of null".
- Policy changes and user-defined filter changes never take effect.
Cause:
- Error is caused by a null entry being included in the filter.
Solution:
- Stop the Chaperon service.
- Click Tools > Server Tools > Download Filter Database...
- Select Yes to download the full filter.
- Once the download is complete, start the Chaperon service.
Note: If the Download Filter Database... button is not accessible, ensure you are using the Chaperon Control Panel on the server itself, this operation cannot be done remotely. If you are on the server and the button is not accessible, navigate to the Enterprise Settings tab and ensure that your server is listed under the Rules Engine Server section.
